On Today’s Gospel

Using the expression Jesus or Jesus Christ! or beJezus or any variation is something we should stop. We should refrain from taking the Lord’s name in vain. For the holy name of Jesus, when called upon, brings peace, love, joy, and much more. It is by his name that we can minister to others, healing, bringing deliverance, and so on.

Do we not realize that we are in actual fact blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit dwells within us? So how then can we loosely use the word or the expression Jesus? For we have been sent into the world to share in the good news that Jesus has come to bring salvation to the nations, and that is our true mission.

To share the joy of the Gospel and to demonstrate that the Gospel is alive today because Jesus is alive. We praise you Jesus. We worship you Jesus. We glorify you. Amen.

Saints Timothy and Titus, Bishops pray for us…

First reading
Titus 1:1-5
To Titus, true child of mine

From Paul, servant of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ to bring those whom God has chosen to faith and to the knowledge of the truth that leads to true religion; and to give them the hope of the eternal life that was promised so long ago by God. He does not lie and so, at the appointed time, he revealed his decision, and, by the command of God our saviour, I have been commissioned to proclaim it. To Titus, true child of mine in the faith that we share, wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our saviour.
The reason I left you behind in Crete was for you to get everything organised there and appoint elders in every town, in the way that I told you.

Gospel
Mark 3:22-30
A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand

The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, ‘Beelzebul is in him’ and, ‘It is through the prince of devils that he casts devils out.’ So he called them to him and spoke to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never stand. Now if Satan has rebelled against himself and is divided, he cannot stand either – it is the end of him. But no one can make his way into a strong man’s house and burgle his property unless he has tied up the strong man first. Only then can he burgle his house.
‘I tell you solemnly, all men’s sins will be forgiven, and all their blasphemies; but let anyone blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and he will never have forgiveness: he is guilty of an eternal sin.’ This was because they were saying, ‘An unclean spirit is in him.’
