There are times when I’ve felt afraid, unprepared, tired and reluctant to push ahead what You had called me to do. Lord Jesus give me strength and steadfastness of faith. By Your example of unfailing love for us and for Your Father; You let nothing stop or hamper You from carrying out His Will. Grant me the grace to do likewise.

All too often I’ve felt a profound sadness and hurt that others have either blatantly rejected You or have shown much irreverence for You, my Lord, my God or even an indifference to and for their faith. Instead of anger or righteous wrath, You desire for us to possess and exercise patience and love. Let Your Wisdom and Counsel govern our hearts through the Holy Spirit. May we always have charity and love in our hearts for others. Amen.

GOSPEL

Luke 9:51–56

When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

Lord have mercy on me for I am a child of the world. I have allowed myself to be become desensitized to and by the sex and violence in books, games, movies, television, the media. Have mercy on me Lord, for I have allowed myself to be drawn to the temptations and desires of the world.

Pray You sweet Jesus come to my aid for I do not want to be a child of the World even for a moment longer. I long to be and remain a child of God! My deepest desire is to honour You by the way I live my life. To be holy, humble and possess the innocent heart of a child of God. To be free to love and be loved. To welcome all God’s children in Your most Holy name.

Let us pray….

O God,
who in your unfathomable providence
are pleased to send your holy Angels to guard us,
hear our supplication as we cry to you,
that we may always be defended by their protection
and rejoice eternally in their company.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

GOSPEL
Matthew 18:1–5, 10

The disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?” He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”
