On Today’s Gospel

jesus

No one will ever love us or care for us the way God our Father does. In spite of our tantrums, disobedience, pride, obstinacy, sheer sinfulness, He waits patiently and lovingly for our return to Him so that He may shower us with His love and in abundance.

No sin……..NO SIN is too great that He will not forgive if we turn to Him with a truly contrite heart. Like a loving parent who lost His/Her child would leave ALL behind, to go in search of the child; Our loving Shepherd Who loves us most, will come for us when we are lost. All we ever need to do is to cry out to Him with our own free will. All our fears we can lay to rest and as we lay in pitch darkness waiting, His light will fill our hearts. He hears us and He is there to carry us home….

O most holy sacred heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

GOSPEL Luke 15:3–7

Jesus addressed this parable to the Pharisees and scribes: “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety–nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety–nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.”

Praise the Lord

Praise the Lord, I rushed to Church after the afternoon shift and was able to join in the last 10mins of the Holy hour of adoration and was filled with His love.

I also got this message, “There is no greater love than to love and embrace my body, your brethren”

I would rather preach the truth and gain only 3 likes then to preach a lie and lose a thousand souls. This is because of whom I serve…my saviour Jesus Christ

Do we welcome with open arms, anyone, family or friends who wishes to talk about Jesus? Or do we shun them or shy away?

Do we lead others especially those new or struggling with the faith away from it by our words or actions? By our sinful acts? Do we in disgust show our impatience towards those who perhaps display irreverence by their talking in church, their inappropriate dressing? Or do we speak and act charitably in love at all times?

Do we hang on tight to people whom we might call friends, who lead us away from our faith and into sin? Sexual partners other than our spouse? Heavy drinking buddies? Gambling buddies? Gossip mongers? Incessant shopping or partying buddies? Or those that might lead us to other forms of abuses?

We need the love and Word of Jesus in our lives, we need to receive Him wholly into the very depths of our body and soul, otherwise we have no life in us and cannot in turn be the light for others.

Let us all strive to be holy as our heavenly Father is holy. Amen

GOSPEL Mark 9:41–50

Jesus said to his disciples:“Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. “Everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if salt becomes insipid, with what will you restore its flavor? Keep salt in yourselves and you will have peace with one another.”

Towards the end of Triduum of the Holy Spirit, which I decided to attend on the last day.  We were to choose from strips of  scripture text printed on paper placed on an altar, ONE which spoke to our heart and we will try to live it out for the rest of the year. We would then take a tea light candle light it and place it on the altar and say a prayer. As we stood nearby and prayed, another sister or brother in Christ was encouraged to place their hand on our shoulder and pray over us.

I thought to myself what a truly inspired idea! The only difficulty I had with it was in the choosing! How do you choose between your children? Can one ever be better than another? So I decided to participate in a way that would allow the Holy Spirit full control, I reached for a stack of strips, wiggled my finger in between and pulled out one. Without looking at it, I lighted the tea light placed it on the altar and then prayed for the Holy Spirit to allow me to live out the Scripture Text He had chosen for me.

Praise the Lord! Truly a message appropriate for me and for lots of you, and since you didn’t get a chance to pull your very own I’m sharing mine with you so that you can journey together with me.

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all. But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift. EPH 4:1-11

Behold The Holy Spirit Leads…

Posted: May 18, 2013 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Memory Book

jesus-child-and-holy-spirit

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time to write up on a personal testimony to the workings of the Holy Spirit and it’s easy to do so when you have Him touch you in such a deep way.

First a little background….you see I was invited to attend two separate Triduums to the Holy Spirit events, one in my own parish and the other in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where my ‘spiritual father’ of sorts was flying in to lead the event.  I was torn a little, however was leaning towards attending it at the latter as I missed Bro. Lalith and his team.  Moreover he is truly an anointed and gifted speaker.

As I was praying and discerning which one to choose, I was prompted instead to conduct a neighbourhood LTW session (LTW=Living The Word) to prepare and bring the group to closer to understanding and even perhaps experiencing the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we drew closer to Pentecost Sunday.  The message to me, was use the gifts you already received instead of seeking to further understand and experience what you already know to be true. So I send out invites to the whole group to come on Friday evening.  One of my neighbourhood members and his mate from the Warden Ministry were supposed to be involved in the triduum but they were prompted to attend our session instead.

Friday morning, I had just finished my night shift and so sat down to have some breakfast and to do my reflections for the daily Gospel. I then received a call from my wife telling me that she had received a call from my second son’s school. Our son had apparently fallen from the top of the staircase and landed directly on his head. Apart from two of his fingers which were badly hurt, he was also complaining of stomach pains and so had to be rushed to the hospital.  My wife informed me that she was on her way and would meet me there. Needless to say it was very upsetting news, yet I felt a calm come over me and a feeling that everything would be okay and that I should continue with the reflections before heading over.  After completing and uploading the reflections, I then hailed a taxi and rushed over to the hospital and managed to get there ahead of the ambulance.

When my son arrived he was transferred from the stretcher to the wheelchair and apart from the swell on his fingers he looked generally okay.  Eyewitnesses to the accident in school confirmed that he had missed a step and actually fell from five steps down approximately 1.4 metres and landed directly on the right side of his head. However there was no swelling whatsoever on his head except for a slight discolouration which looked to be the beginnings of a slight bruise. His stomach pain had subsided and so his only real complaint were his fingers. Praise the Lord!

When my wife arrived, she thought it best that we postpone the LTW session, however I told her that everything would be fine and that we should proceed. My son was discharged with a cast on his left hand to allow the two affected fingers to heal properly and we are to return a week later for a follow up and that was all there was to it. Praise the Lord!

In the evening during one of the sharing sessions, I asked the young son of a member if there was anything he would like to share on one of the passages we were covering.  You see I had asked him on numerous occasions in the past, if he had anything to share and he would always politely turn me down.  He would however from time to time ask questions on what the passages meant. That evening, filled with the holy spirit he not only highlighted two sentences which moved him deeply, he proceeded to share why and what it meant. Praise the Lord!

Throughout the session the Holy Spirit moved through almost all the members and we could feel the very strong presence of our Lord among us. The sharings were wonderful and heartfelt.

Then at the end of the session we decided to have a closing hymn which we do not normally do, this was done after the closing prayer. One of the members had prepared the hymn a week before for our session not knowing which Gospel passage we were going to. We decided to do John 14:15–16, 23b–26.  And verse 23 of the Gospel reading is ‘Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.’ She had chosen the hymn  ‘God is dwelling in my heart’  Praise the Lord!

I thank and praise God for keeping my son safe and sound and for allowing me to participate in His plan, which provided for a powerful testimony to the movement of the Holy Spirit and thereby a witness to His Great Glory! Amen

Those of us who had done the Vigil, fasted yesterday during Good Friday and attended the service. Did you not experience profound sadness? A sense of loss? Especially when you saw Jesus physically absent in the tabernacle and the sacramentals removed? Yes some of us felt His presence still as spiritual consolation but wasn’t the overall experience surreal?

Now while we continue to fast and remain in prayer, do you now begin to feel a different experience? A sense of joyful anticipation? Perhaps in a sense like a pregnant woman about to give birth? A new beginning?

Amen! I am thankful to be Catholic! Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit! Amen.

Catholicjules’ Prayer/Mantra

Posted: March 23, 2013 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Meditations, Prayers

As I continue to journey in faith, one of my greatest challenges is remaining humble and holy when faced with confrontation.  The temptation to be snide, defensive and in certain situations even a little aggressive is overwhelming.  I have given in to the weakness from time to time though not as often as I used to in the past. As I was reflecting on this weakness today, this came to mind….

If I see every situation or encounter as an opportunity to bear witness to Christ then I remain walking in the Light.

Later this morning, I brought my kids for their swimming lesson and decided to go for a swim as well. And again I believe inspired by the Holy Spirit I came up with this mantra/prayer which I intend to recite every day first thing I wake up and need be throughout the day until it I am one with it. It incorporates the Jesus prayer as well as a desire to live in discipleship.

“Lord Jesus Christ, son of the Living God have mercy on me a sinner, with, through and in your Love let me always bear witness to you in thought, word and deed.” Amen

SUNDAY BIBLE REFLECTIONS BY DR. SCOTT HAHN

Fruits of the Fig

Readings:
Exodus 3:1-8,13-15
Psalm 103:1-4, 6-8, 11
1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12
Luke 13:1-9

In the Church, we are made children of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – the God who makes known His name and His ways to Moses in today’s First Reading.

Mindful of His covenant with Abraham (see Exodus 2:24), God came down to rescue His people from the slave-drivers of Egypt.

Faithful to that same covenant (see Luke 1:54-55, 72-73), He sent Jesus to redeem all lives from destruction, as today’s Psalm tells us.

Paul says in today’s Epistle that God’s saving deeds in the Exodus were written down for the Church, intended as a prelude and foreshadowing of our own Baptism by water, our liberation from sin, our feeding with spiritual food and drink.

Yet the events of the Exodus were also given as a “warning” – that being children of Abraham is no guarantee that we will reach the promised land of our salvation.

At any moment, Jesus warns in today’s Gospel, we could perish – not as God’s punishment for being “greater sinners” – but because, like the Israelites in the wilderness, we stumble into evil desires, fall into grumbling, forget all His benefits. Jesus calls us today to “repentance” – not a one-time change of heart, but an ongoing, daily transformation of our lives.

We’re called to live the life we sing about in today’s Psalm – blessing His holy name, giving thanks for His kindness and mercy.

The fig tree in His parable is a familiar Old Testament symbol for Israel (see Jeremiah 8:3; 24:1-10). As the fig tree is given one last season to produce fruit before it is cut down, so too Jesus is giving Israel one final opportunity to bear good fruits as evidence of its repentance (see Luke 3:8).

Lent should be for us like the season of reprieve given to the fig tree, a grace period in which we let “the gardener,” Christ, cultivate our hearts, uprooting what chokes the divine life in us, strengthening us to bear fruits that will last into eternity.

Spirit Filled Swim

Posted: March 2, 2013 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys

Had a unique and wonderful experience today at the swimming pool.  You see I haven’t been swimming in quite a while, so while my kids had their swimming lessons I decided to swim a few laps.

Then I decided that since it was lent, I would say the Our Father swimming a lap and on the return lap I would say a Hail Mary. After the eighth lap I decided to say the creed.  That’s when the surreal experience began, inspired by the Holy Spirit I sort of chanted this in mind while I swam the last few laps

“Through the deep Red Sea,
from the clutches of slavery,
to liberty of life, praise be to God! ”

“Through the waters of my baptism,
from the bondage of sin,
to liberty in life with Christ, praise be to God!”

Swimming will today and always be extra special for me!  Praise be to God!

You planned a thanksgiving party in honour of your father. Invited all your family members and friends to come on a Sunday morning. Prepared a feast, songs to be sung in honour of your father and messages of love to be shared with all.

Sunday came and not everyone showed up or bothered to call to inform you that they couldn’t come. Some came in singlet, skimpy shorts and slippers. Some refused to participate in the celebration, others refused to sing with crossed arms. While the messages of love was shared, some started talking amongst themselves, while others decided it was time to catch a snooze.

After the feast, before the last song could be sung or messages of thanks could be said, some started leaving. Few hurried on as they probably felt they had better and far more important things to do.

Jesus my Lord and Saviour have mercy on all of us who behave this way during the Eucharistic Celebration. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit may we lead one another into greater faith and greater reverence for the Sacraments. Amen

Reflection

Posted: February 13, 2013 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Personal Thoughts & Reflections

Many are called few are chosen, His wisdom seeks out those willing,  though not without sacrifice. In humility often times we get to witness His overall plan for us, even the roadblocks or disasters we avoided by responding to His call. And even if we do not see, we experience the love, peace and joy that follows.

Thankfulness is an act of love, it requires effort some times even a little sacrifice. Being thankful to God is a participation in His love for us.

Sunday Bible Reflections with Dr. Scott Hahn

Into the Deep

Readings:
Isaiah 6:1-8
Psalm 138:1-5, 7-8
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Luke 5:1-11

Simon Peter, the fisherman, is the first to be called personally by Jesus in Luke’s Gospel.

His calling resembles Isaiah’s commissioning in the First Reading: Confronted with the holiness of the Lord, both Peter and Isaiah are overwhelmed by a sense of their sinfulness and inadequacy. Yet each experiences the Lord’s forgiveness and is sent to preach the good news of His mercy to the world.

No one is “fit to be called an apostle,” Paul recognizes in today’s Epistle. But by “the grace of God,” even a persecutor of the Church—as Paul once was—can be lifted up for the Lord’s service.

In the Old Testament, humanity was unfit for the divine—no man could stand in God’s presence and live (see Exodus 33:20). But in Jesus, we’re made able to speak with Him face-to-face, taste His Word on our tongue.

Today’s scene from Isaiah is recalled in every Mass. Before reading the Gospel, the priest silently asks God to cleanse his lips that he might worthily proclaim His Word.

God’s Word comes to us as it came to Peter, Paul, Isaiah, and today’s Psalmist— as a personal call to leave everything and follow Him, to surrender our weaknesses in order to be filled with His strength.

Simon put out into deep waters even though, as a professional fisherman, he knew it would be foolhardy to expect to catch anything. In humbling himself before the Lord’s command, he was exalted—his nets filled to overflowing; later, as Paul tells us, he will become the first to see the risen Lord.

Jesus has made us worthy to receive Him in the company of angels in God’s holy Temple. On our knees like Peter, with the humility of David in today’s Psalm, we thank Him with all our hearts and join in the unending hymn that Isaiah heard around God’s altar: “Holy, holy, holy….” (see also Revelation 4:8).

All you who thirst for love,
All you who thirst to fill an empty void,
All you who thirst for peace of mind,
All you who thirst for more than what the world can offer,
Come to me for I am the living water, I alone can grant you eternal life.

Jesus wants to heal us to pour out His love upon us…

Do we seek our Christ with an expectant faith?

Do we give Him thanks, Glory and praise for all He does for us?

Do we spend some quiet time with God our Father, allowing Him to speak to our hearts, refresh us and administer to us?

Today’s GOSPEL Luke 5:12–16

It happened that there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where Jesus was; and when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately. Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but “Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” The report about him spread all the more, and great crowds assembled to listen to him and to be cured of their ailments, but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.

Solemnity Of Mary, the Holy Mother Of God

Posted: January 1, 2013 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Memory Book

Let us pray….

O God of all the living, you brought to birth the day of salvation wrought through the One who is our ever lasting life and peace. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God and the world’s Mother, bring to perfection that which you have begun in Him who lives and reigns with You and The Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever Amen.

~~~
The Blessed Virgin Mary is born to be Mother. The supreme consolation that Our Lady receives at the cross of her Son is the assurance that her vocation as Mother does not end with Christ’s death. The Lord commands the world, “Behold your Mother.” The Church begins for Mary – and for us – with these words. The Blessed Virgin’s womb remains for ever fruitful. Mary leads us to Christ, but Christ leads us back to his Mother, for without Mary’s maternity, Jesus would become a mere abstraction to us. The Lord wills to let His face shine upon us through the face of the Mother of God. We “serve a Mother who seems to grow more beautiful as new generations rise up and call her blessed” ( G.K. Chesterton ).
Today’s Gospel..And A Prayer for the Year end
Posted: December 31, 2012 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys
Let us Pray….
Abba Father we thank you for another wonderful year in which your love and grace was poured out upon us abundantly. We pray that as we welcome the new year, Your face will shine upon us so we might live in the light and be witnesses to the light for all whom we meet and that it will be a most blessed, holy,joyous, faith filled year for us and for our loved ones. We ask this through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and The Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever Amen.
In-the-beginning...-John-1.1
Today’s Gospel
John 1:1-18
In the beginning was the Word:
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things came to be,
not one thing had its being but through him.
All that came to be had life in him
and that life was the light of men,
a light that shines in the dark,
a light that darkness could not overpower.
A man came, sent by God.
His name was John.
He came as a witness,
as a witness to speak for the light,
so that everyone might believe through him.
He was not the light,
only a witness to speak for the light.
The Word was the true light
that enlightens all men;
and he was coming into the world.
He was in the world
that had its being through him,
and the world did not know him.
He came to his own domain
and his own people did not accept him.
But to all who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God,
to all who believe in the name of him
who was born not out of human stock
or urge of the flesh
or will of man
but of God himself.
The Word was made flesh,
he lived among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father,
full of grace and truth.
John appears as his witness. He proclaims:
‘This is the one of whom I said:
He who comes after me ranks before me
because he existed before me.’
Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received –
yes, grace in return for grace,
since, though the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
it is the only Son, who is nearest to the Father’s heart,
who has made him known.
jesus roof power of jesus to forgive sin
Do we have such faith like that of the friends of the paralysed man to do what it takes to bring others to Jesus? Be it praying for them? Petitioning on their behalf? Or simply bringing joy in their lives by sharing with them the Good News? Knowing that Jesus upon seeing our faith will respond accordingly….
Let us cry out together, LORD I BELIEVE…DO THOU INCREASE MY FAITH! Amen.
Today’s Gospel – Luke 5:17-26
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
SUNDAY BIBLE REFLECTIONS BY DR. SCOTT HAHN
The Road Home
Readings:
Baruch 5:1-9
Psalm 126:1-6
Philippians 1:4-6,8-11
Luke 3:1-6
Today’s Psalm paints a dream-like scene – a road filled with liberated captives heading home to Zion (Jerusalem), mouths filled with laughter, tongues rejoicing.
It’s a glorious picture from Israel’s past, a “new exodus,” the deliverance from exile in Babylon. It’s being recalled in a moment of obvious uncertainty and anxiety. But the psalmist isn’t waxing nostalgic.
Remembering “the Lord has done great things” in the past, he is making an act of faith and hope – that God will come to Israel in its present need, that He’ll do even greater things in the future..
This is what the Advent readings are all about: We recall God’s saving deeds – in the history of Israel and in the coming of Jesus. Our remembrance is meant to stir our faith, to fill us with confidence that, as today’s Epistle puts it, “the One who began a good work in [us] will continue to complete it” until He comes again in glory.
Each of us, the Liturgy teaches, is like Israel in her exile – led into captivity by our sinfulness, in need of restoration, conversion by the Word of the Holy One (see Baruch 5:5). The lessons of salvation history should teach us that, as God again and again delivered Israel, in His mercy He will free us from our attachments to sin, if we turn to Him in repentance.
That’s the message of John, introduced in today’s Gospel as the last of the great prophets (compare Jeremiah 1:1-4,11). But John is greater than the prophets (see Luke 7:27). He’s preparing the way, not only for a new redemption of Israel, but for the salvation of “all flesh” (see also Acts 28:28).
John quotes Isaiah (40:3) to tell us he’s come to build a road home for us, a way out of the wilderness of sin and alienation from God. It’s a road we’ll follow Jesus down, a journey we’ll make, as today’s First Reading puts it, “rejoicing that [we’re] remembered by God.”
While in adoration….
From the rising of the sun, you will bathe in my Glory,for as you hold me close to your heart. So will I embrace you in mine.
In my many temptations,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus,
In the storms and deep dark seas of life,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus.
Through my sicknesses and pain,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus,
Through my anger and shame,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus.
Through my fears and anguish,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus,
Through my anxieties and confusion,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus.
In moments I feel I am losing faith,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus,
In times of loss and emptiness,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus.
In my joys and in my sorrows,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus,
In my life and in my death,
I will cling to you my sweet Jesus.
The Light Of The World
Posted: October 23, 2012 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Personal Thoughts & Reflections
The Light of the World (1853–54) is an allegorical painting by William Holman Hunt representing the figure of Jesus preparing to knock on an overgrown and long-unopened door, illustrating Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me”. According to Hunt: “I painted the picture with what I thought, unworthy though I was, to be by Divine command, and not simply as a good Subject.”[1] The door in the painting has no handle, and can therefore be opened only from the inside, representing “the obstinately shut mind”.
Lk 12:35-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants.”
Personal Reflections
Jesus knocks on our door frequently till one day He will stop. Are we ready to receive Him?
Jesus cannot come into our hearts if we do not open our hearts to Him.  His persistent and pure love for us beckons that we open the door through our own free will.
Blessed are we waiting and ready…….
I am often overcome with profound sadness when I read about baby or child abuses in the newspapers.  How can parents go overboard or at times behave so cruelly?  Perhaps there was/is no relationship with God in those situations….
I often question my own parenting skills, have I behaved impatiently with my boys? They have from time to time enraged me with their antics, misbehavior, and stubbornness.  Have I gone overboard in disciplining them? They are after all only children…
Lately this scripture passage hit me like never before! Most of us may never be given or take up the opportunity to serve the truly poor and desolate.  But we have been given an opportunity as parents to do likewise for our children. We are in actual fact their guardians for our Father in heaven. How can we abuse this privilege??
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me. Matt 25:35-36
We will all be accountable for our actions or inactions ……..let us all as parents be a little more loving and tolerant.
Who Do You Say I Am?
Posted: September 28, 2012 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys, Personal Thoughts & Reflections
Reflection on the question Jesus puts to us today….
Is Jesus real in our lives? Do we have a real authentic relationship with him?
Can we truly call Him our friend? our Lord? our God?
God before I or is it I before God?
We are called to movement, to action.  In Isaiah 50:4-9 we are called to renounce ourselves and take up the cross.
What is the cross we bear? It is the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ?
Can we embrace the sufferings in our lives which lead us to His kingdom?
Doing His Will for us with love and in love is the true cross, we embrace the suffering that comes with it and Jesus will give us rest for it is His yoke we bear.
In Retrospect…
About a week ago, I was catching up with a Muslim brother over coffee. We were talking about past adventures, then somehow as we were talking about the previous company we had worked in, he mentioned something rather odd to me. He shared that a mutual Muslim friend, still working there had jokingly mentioned to him to be wary of me, otherwise he might end up being baptized by me! I could not help but feel a little peeved. What would give him that idea? We were not friends on Facebook hence he would not have seen any of my posts on my faith, so where? How? Then it finally dawned on me that we had other mutual friends, and that it must be through them that he got the idea. But hey why was I peeved? I should be joyfully praising the Lord! At least they know their Catholic brother is strong enough in his faith to share it with anyone willing to listen. To share about the greatest gift to us from God our Father, His only begotten Son, our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord!
More Testimonies That Jesus Lives! God Is Good…
Posted: September 25, 2012 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys
All the time!
In this age it is apparent, that unless you lead a religious life it quite difficult to maintain a long sustaining relationship with Christ through prayer and reflection. Distractions are aplenty! So much so that we often lose sight and wonder of His presence in and through our lives.  Doubts may even creep in…..*sigh*….But here I am to tell you that HE LIVES!
Here are a few recent encounters of His love I have been blessed to share….
1) Given the circumstances of the brother in Christ I had been administering Holy Communion for the sick to ( see earlier post) , it was understandable that he was going through a little depression and spiritual darkness.  But after a few sessions of listening to the Word of the Lord, receiving Jesus in the Eucharist and in co-operation with the holy spirit through personal determination and spiritual growth he mustered enough strength to attend one mass so far in his wheelchair.  Praise the Lord! Please keep him in your prayers….that he may continue to grow in strength, love and spirit, to do and live according to Our Father’s will.
2) The baby son of the brother in Christ mentioned above had to be rushed to the hospital with a high fever recently, however within a week of daily family prayers for his son and am quite certain lots of others were praying too, his son recovered fully within the week and was reported to be a handful! Praise the Lord!
3) My elder son now coming eleven in December had to take his final stage test to qualify to be an alter server for the weekend mass. He was anxious and nervous about it because as far as he knew no one passed the first time around, in fact one of his friends took as many as four times before passing the test.  I told him to pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and assured him that so long as he had the heart to serve, all would be well.  He passed the first time round and was even requested to serve the Sunday on the same weekend! Praise the Lord!
4) Last year I had facilitated the Holy Communion program for three families. During the adult portion of the program, I had learned through the sharing after speaking about reconciliation and the Father’s love for us;  That one of the participant’s father had lapsed in his faith, had a strained relationship with his wife likely, due to his frequent travels and even admitted to constantly being exposed to temptation while overseas. After the whole program ended and a few months had passed, I noticed both Father and son were regular in receiving the sacrament of reconciliation, then last week I manage to catch up with the Father and he shared with me that he will be starting a new job next month where he will no longer be required to travel and he is even considering joining a ministry in Church to server the Lord. Praise the Lord!
Jesus loves us all! open your hearts and minds to Him and you will experience Him in all things, large and small, loud and bold or soft and subtle like a gentle breeze……
Sunday Bible Reflections by Dr. Scott Hahn
Servant of All
Readings:
Wisdom 2:12,17-20
Psalm 54:3-8
James 3:16-4:3
Mark 9:30-37
In today’s First Reading, it’s like we have our ears pressed to the wall and can hear the murderous grumblings of the elders, chief priests and scribes – who last week Jesus predicted would torture and kill Him (see Mark 8:31; 10:33-34).
The liturgy invites us to see this passage from the Book of Wisdom as a prophecy of the Lord’s Passion. We hear His enemies complain that “the Just One” has challenged their authority, reproached them for breaking the law of Moses, for betraying their training as leaders and teachers.
And we hear chilling words that foreshadow how they will mock Him as He hangs on the cross: “For if the Just One be the Son of God, He will…deliver Him…” (compare Matthew 27:41-43).
Today’s Gospel and Psalm give us the flip side of the First Reading. In both, we hear of Jesus’ sufferings from His point of view. Though His enemies surround Him, He offers himself freely in sacrifice, trusting that God will sustain Him.
But the apostles today don’t understand this second announcement of Christ’s passion. They begin arguing over issues of succession—over who among them is greatest, who will be chosen to lead after Christ is killed.
Again they are thinking not as God, but as human beings (see Mark 8:33). And again Jesus teaches the Twelve—the chosen leaders of His Church—that they must lead by imitating His example of love and self-sacrifice. They must be “servants of all,” especially the weak and the helpless – symbolized by the child He embraces and places in their midst.
This is a lesson for us, too. We must have the mind of Christ, who humbled himself to come among us (see Philippians 2: 5-11). We must freely offer ourselves, making everything we do a sacrifice in praise of His name.  As James says in today’s Epistle, we must seek wisdom from above, desiring humility not glory, and in all things be gentle and full of mercy.
Be Angry But…
An act of love is remaining silent even though our egos desires to speak.
An act of love is a decision to love even before seeing, hearing or touching.
An act of love is to always welcome the stranger in our midst.
Am I blessed? Does Jesus listen when I pray? Can He really use a sinner like me?
YES…..YES….a resouding YES! Praise the Lord! Here is a little testimony of testimonies of how Jesus has acted in my life recently,  though I must say I have not been dilligent in giving Him glory in the other many, many,many numerous instances in which He had….
Last Saturday during a healing mass and adoration of the blessed Sacrament, while I was praying I received a message which I posted here on this blog two posts ago.  At the same time I was praying for my Aunty Veronica who had been admitted on Friday I believe for some blockage in the intestine.  On two separate occasions during the whole healing prayer session at the precise instance I had prayed for my Aunt by name, the leader Joseph Fernandez (from the Gloria Patri Ministry) announced on the microphone “Some of you are now praying for your family members, know that the Lord has heard your prayer.”
On Sunday through facebook my cousin informed all of us whom had been praying for her mum that she would be discharged the very next day! Praise the Lord.
Back to the Saturday of the healing mass, I had brought the whole family that is my two young sons, my baby daughter of nine months and my darling wife.  My wife was struggling to keep our little girl quiet and had to leave the auditorium ( basement level ) frequently to do so.  Outside the auditorium however it is not air-conditioned and so it got pretty hot real quick especially when she was trying to feed our daughter.  So she went up to the ground level where she met Valarie from the Church office who had just closed up for the day but offered to open the office for a spell so she could feed our daughter in the air-conditioned office. Praise the Lord!
Then a lady stood by the doorway peering in looking a little perplexed.  Valarie asked if she needed help on something of which she replied she was looking for Holy communion for the sick for her husband.  He was bed ridden as a result of an accident involving a lorry hitting his bicycle. According to her she had come to both the church’s offices to fill up some forms for this service but no one had gotten back to her for more than a month. My wife offered to pass her contact details on to me so that arrangements could be made swiftly.  For those who haven’t really been following my blog, she passed it on to me because I happen to be serving as a an Extraordinary Minister Of Holy Communion. Coincidence? I beg to differ…..Praise the Lord! I made arrangements with the wife to bring Jesus to him the following Sunday.
Today my wife and I made our way to their home after attending the 1115am Eucharistic Celebration.  It started to drizzle as we reached the bus stop, so I handed my wife a small umbrella which I had gone back into my home just as I was leaving this morning, just so that I could bring it  ‘just in case’ ? Praise the Lord! Then I had a vision of sorts, that if I walked past the bus stop to the traffic light junction and waited on the opposite side, I would be able to flag down a blue cab.  So I told my wife and we did just that….and lo and behold a blue cab arrived! Praise the Lord!
We made our way up to the home and I proceeded into his bedroom to read the Gospel and administer Holy Communion for the sick to him.  It was great to be able to serve the Lord and my brother in Christ who was faithfully waiting for Jesus.  Praise the Lord!
So my sisters and brothers in Christ as Jesus says in John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
Trust And Surrender To The Lord…
Posted: July 17, 2012 by CatholicJules in Life's Journeys
     This month had been particularly hetic for me…. apart from my normal office hour job; the First Holy Communion program of which I had been faciliatating for my neighbourhood group finally drew to a close and we have set a date in Sept for our children to received their First Holy Communion.
Then there is my forthnightly neighbourhood LTW meeting ( Living The Word ) which I have to be prepared for.  Also it was my first time joint-leading with my EMC group to lead Primary 3 students in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and I was quite excited about getting it done smoothly, praise the Lord that it went quite well though it took about almost 1 hour 45 mins to finish which is a tad too long, especially for the children their age.
Then I was invited to lead a communion service on one of the week days as our priests were on a retreat.  I was rather nervous at first but all when smoothly, through prayers and much preparation, praise the Lord!
Then finally I thought that I had till next week to prepare for my spiritual presentation to my EMC group, thinking that the 3rd Monday of the month for July was on the 22nd.  It did not occur to me that there are five mondays instead of four this month! So when I received the text message asking me if I was ready, I jumped a little but did not panick as I might normally have done.  Why? Well before I get to the why…I must mention that I had been very nervous about doing the presentation partly because the topic I chose was quite a difficult one and secondly it required lots of preparation time.  I had been going at it for nearly a month in head, but never actually got down to preparing the slides or the write up.  And the reason I was calm even though I had less than two hours to prepare for the presentation, was because I had just gotten back from the four steps retreat.  Being spirit filled, trusting and surrendering to the Lord made quite a difference.
Truly with the help of the Holy Spirit I managed to finish my presentation to the sound of applause, all glory be to God!  My little cell group requested I continue to do the rest of presentations till year end, but I declined only because everyone in the group should be given an oppturnity to grow.
Praise the Lord!
By virtue of our baptism we are all commissioned to go and spread the good news though each of us have been given different gifts to do so…..
  • Evangelisation needs to come naturally.  You must want to talk about Jesus.
  • Evangelisation is about conversion, it is about planting a seed.
  • You can start at home then the Church, community and then outside the community.
  • Evangelisation reminds us all that God reigns overall, it is our responsibility to God to share His love with all.
  • Let us not be paralysed by fear….
  • Most think that the Devil uses the ultimate weapon ‘Hatred’ but over the years we can see that it is actually ‘Fear’ which causes inacti0n. “And in what we have failed to do…..”
  • William Shakespeare once said,”A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave one dies but one.
Here are four simple steps we can take to begin :-
  1. Prayer – We all can do at least one thing together and that is pray.  We can pray for the conversion of others, healing, mercy, and most importantly for our enemies or those that most have given up on.
  2. Listen first then speak second.  Listening is key, we have two ears and one mouth that should already be telling us that we should be listening twice as hard.  But it is essential that we speak up too. We may not have all the answers but we can certainly speak about God’s love and mercy. And again most importantly we should speak in the name of Jesus.
  3. Do something. – We should all be doing something! Move our feet into action and walk…..We have been reminded over and over again that the kingdom of God is at hand. And He will come like a thief in the night…..so let us be prepared…let us start today…whatever we have been called to do…we start now!
  4. Inner Conversion – Our Transfiguration.  We have to be a different people. We must change, we must want to change. We must strive to be a people of mercy and compassion. To be Holy and perfect as our Heavenly Father is Holy and perfect.
In my personal experience, I use to cringe at the thought of Evagelisation, because I had always thought that I had to be knowledgeable about my faith before I could even attempt to talk about Jesus.  I also knew that if I didn’t at least try to start somewhere I would likely never ever do so.  So with a prayer to the Holy Spirit, I began to try and talk about Jesus. I found it was easy to start with simply what Jesus has done for me in my life.  How I have grown in faith and turned my life around and of how, I now experience inner joy and peace which I have not known before.  Most people like to listen to stories, so why not tell my personal story? ( True living experience )
In my journey, I have found that family members and some closest friends are usually the toughest audience and more often than naught you will get grieve from them. But do not despair, you are not called to convert them but simply plant the seed of love.  God will do the rest over time.  I have witnessed this myself in my own family life.
Join me now as we participate with Jesus Christ to save the human race….
(SACCRE Ablaze Rally at Church Of The Holy Cross And A Talk by Jim Murphy ICCRS – Theme “The Royal Commission”)
2nd Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 3:10–17
You have followed my teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra, persecutions that I endured. Yet from all these things the Lord delivered me. In fact, all who want to live religiously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But wicked people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But you, remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
Everyday is a struggle for me, so it is for everyone on the journey.  The closer we get to Christ, the deeper the relationship the more the trials and temptations we seem to receive. St Paul reminds us today that he too and many of our brothers and sisters before us have undergone the same persecutions if not far worst.  But why do they continue?  I  believe it is because they carry Jesus with them in their hearts and they recall the love and peace they have experienced that no one and nothing on earth can provide except our Lord and Saviour and they know they will receive the Grace again at the end of the trial and  bear witness to His Glory.
It is far easier to give up, to taste the forbidden fruit and enjoy its shortlived ecstasy only to wander again in nothingness. How many? Including I have said “all in good time” or “tomorrow definitely tomorrow”  well friends…. what if tomorrow never comes for you?  Do not be deceived!  The truth St Paul speaks about is evident in our lives, be it with our own families, friends, even acquaintances, the wicked go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. Let us call to mind what we were called to do on ash Wednesday and put it to action and that is to “Turn away from Sin and be faithful to the Gospels.”
Only then can we truly grow in faith and righteousness and are able to share the Good News to others in our daily lives.
May the Love of Jesus be upon you always. Amen
“When you turn off the light of your heart to my love, you invite sin to manifest in you. Do not allow your shame to dishearten you or shy away from me, know that when you open your heart to me, I will bring forth my burning light of Love to illuminate your heart and set you free. Sin cannot prevail in the light of my love for you my son, my daughter. Remain in my love always…..”
I really wanted to attend this rally but could not as it was after a post night shift.  Anyhow my Brother in Christ Raymund did a great job I think of sharing with us the main points…..here is what he wrote….
Dear brothers & sisters in Christ,
This are points from Fr. William’s preaching today at the Rally. It is not a total transcript, but pretty much the main points of what I could type during his talk. Hope it helps you recap his preaching.
For those of you who could not make, you missed a truly awesome rally. Hope this benefits you.
God bless.
Ray
Deuteronomy 11:13 * If, then, you truly listen to my commandments which I give you today, loving and serving the LORD, your God, with your whole heart and your whole being,
3rd millennium world is changing rapidly mostly because of globalisation. Advancements in technology in different facets. We’re facing a very different world. Many people are replacing God with science and technology. Modern man thinks that S&T can solve all their problems and give them the answers they seek.
Secularismism denies the presence of God. It can take the form of hostility. Today, it is no fun in being a religious leader. Today, many have no respect for religious leaders, and more so, God.
When God is rejected, the consequences are great. God is becoming more absent in our lives. We don’t talk about talk because of secularism. It breeds relativism. There is no more reference point in what is moral and immorality. They question the bible.
What were facing today is the collapse of values. Our young people are not bothered about committing sin. They do not believe in what is right and wrong. So, sin is no a matter for consideration. Today we’re surrounded in a situation of what is right and wrong. Media plays a large part in this problem. Our young people are influenced by the media. Young people have different understanding of casual sex for example. They do not feel it is wrong because “everyone” is doing it!
Because of the loss and collapse of values – Satan is attacking our Catholic values thru the destruction of families and marriages. Our children, as a result of this, suffer greatly, and history tends to repeat itself in their own adult lives later on.
Attacking the family and the church! Marriage used to be primarily for procreation, and secondarily for companionship. Today, the roles are reversed. In the face of all this, what is our cry? “Renew the face of the Church”. Only God can bring about a renewal, a change in the world. the new evangelisation is the key to renewing the face of the church.
1. Re-evangelise our Catholics.
2.Reaching out to those who are yet to know Christ by using new techniques and methods. To bring a new understanding and encounter with Christ. A real conversion.
Many of our Catholics today are inviting new age spirituality.This is not Christian, or Catholic. Many people turn to this as it is a combination of different religions and Science and Technology (S&T). Centring prayer which is not Catholic at all. It bypasses Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Christian prayer is a relationship with the Father, in the Son, through the Holy Spirit. The sole purpose of Jesus is to let us know who the Father is, and giving us the Holy Spirit. Christianity is not an impersonal relationship!
Many people are turning to the different forms of prayer because they do not know Jesus. Do you have a personal relationship with God? The Holy Spirit is critical in our relationship with God.
1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore, I tell you that nobody speaking by the spirit of God says, “Jesus be accursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the holy Spirit.
To know Jesus is the Lord is the work of the Holy Spirit. How does one know that God is Father? What sentiments do we have when we pray the ‘Our Father’? Who is the Father to us? Our concept of our Father, sometimes is not very great. Look at Jesus’ relationship with the Father – it is one of great intimacy.
Matthew 11:27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
Jesus surrendered his life to the Father because He knew He was the Son. He knew His identity. Do we know our identity? The idea of sonship and daughtership is not real. It is just an idea. If we are truly conscious, we will behave accordingly. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to pray.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.  Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, “Abba,* Father!”
Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.
Romans 8:27 And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.
If our Christian lives are truly one of relationship, we will be conscious of that relationship! The Church is a sacrament of unity and love. The more intense our relationship with God, the more fulfilled we will be. We will not take God for granted. There is division in the world, in our families because there is no relationship.
In order to renew the face of the earth, we must heal the inner man. We all bear the consequences of the sins of our forefathers – Inter-generational sin/healing. We cannot inherit the sins of our forefathers. Many of us are living hypocritical lives. It is ok if you are aware of this and try to change for the better. We are all broken people – many of us are wounded emotionally, spiritually, and to an extent, physically.
The Holy Spirit not only gives us sonship, but also empowers us.
Romans 5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.
1 John 4:9 In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.
1 John 4:10 In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another.
1 John 4:12 No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.
1 John 4:13 * This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit.
The Holy Spirit restores us.
Wisdom, understanding and knowledge are very important to forming our faculties.
Fortitude is important in spiritual warfare. when we were baptised, we were give the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit. One of the most important graces given to the Catholic Church is the Charismatic Renewal. This was emphasised by our Pope. If our sacraments are effective, it is because of the Holy Spirit. The baptism of the Holy Spirit makes us conscious of our baptismal spiritual gifts. That is why the LISS is important – to activate the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The spiritual gifts are meant for service.
1 Cor 12 – 1 Cor 14
The Charismatic Renewal builds communities. Praying freely in the Spirit. We are not purely spirit – we should pray in body and spirit. We should pray for the renewal of Pentecost. We needn’t be Catholics to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Remember Cornelius in Acts. Believing in the power of prayer and intercession.
The End.
Personal Reflection…..
“Truth? What is that? ”
To those who who do not have a relationship with the Truth then truth is relative, to be wielded for personal gain. To those who do, Truth is absolute all encompassing. A peaceful flight sailing against the winds of adversity in absolute freedom.
Sunday Bible Reflections by Dr. Scott Hahn
Begotten By Love
Readings:
Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48
Psalm 98:1-4
1 John 4:7-10
John 15:9-17
God is love, and He revealed that love in sending His only Son to be a sacrificial offering for our sins.
In these words from today’s Epistle, we should hear an echo of the story of Abraham’s offering of Isaac at the dawn of salvation history. Because Abraham obeyed God’s command and did not with-hold his only beloved son, God promised that Abraham’s descendants, the children of Israel, would be the source of blessing for all nations (see Genesis 22:16-18).
We see that promise coming to fulfillment in today’s First Reading. God pours out His Spirit upon the Gentiles, the non-Israelites, as they listen to the word of Peter’s preaching. Notice they receive the same gifts received by the devout Jews who heard Peter’s preaching at Pentecost—the Spirit comes to rest upon them and they speak in tongues, glorifying God (see Acts 2:5-11).
In his love today, God reveals that His salvation embraces the house of Israel and peoples of all nations. Not by circumcision or blood relation to Abraham, but by faith in the Word of Christ, sealed in the sacrament of baptism, peoples are to be made children of Abraham, heirs to God’s covenants of promise (see Galatians 3:7-9; Ephesians 2:12).
This is the wondrous work of God that we sing of in today’s Psalm. It is the work of the Church, the good fruit that Jesus chooses and appoints His apostles for in today’s Gospel.
As Peter raises up Cornelius today, the Church continues to lift all eyes to Christ, the only one in whose name they can find salvation.
In the Church, each of us has been begotten by the love of God. But the Scriptures today reveal that this divine gift brings with it a command and a duty. We are to love one another as we have been loved. We are to lay down our lives in giving ourselves to others—that they too might find friendship with Christ, and new life through Him
Yes I know this is long overdue since we are now in the third week of Easter celebrations already, but I have been kept pretty busy doing both the Lord’s work and work at the office.  On the onset I must say that my Lenten journey this year has been rocky and painful but I have learnt much and have yet more to learn!  I will be as brief as possible and share only the most important points/lessons that I have learned and experienced.
Many observe the Lenten fast or abstinence in their own way i.e. according to their own faith level and even physical constitution.  For me, I did a 12 hour fast from food and water beginning each they at 5 am the fast started from 6am till 6pm in the evening.  The first few days were the toughest since the body wants what is wants but soon enough it adjusted and I could concentrate on why I was emptying myself and let the Lord fill me with His love.  To realise that our bodies does not actually need that much food or drink to survive, and that discipline of the body aids in spiritual discipline as well.
The closer I got to the Lord my God in the journey, the greater too the temptations to stray.  And when I could no longer attend daily Mass since my wife returned to work after her maternity leave was over, I found myself not only hungering and thirsting for the Eucharist but my propensity to sin increased.  The Eucharist is indeed a great gift of Love for us, the nourishment we need to resist sin and to remain in communion with our one Triune God and His children our brothers and sisters.  Another great gift of Love is the Sacrament of Reconciliation, God receiving us close to His bosom even though we had strayed, freeing us from the bondage of sin and allowing His peace and Love to flow through our very being.  I experienced His love for me even when I could not go for the sacrament till six days later, He knew I had fallen once again but with a contrite heart I cried out to Him and He heard me.  He gave me consolations of peace and love till I manage to embrace Him once again in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The height and summit of the Lenten journey for me started on Maundy Thursday evening.  I had been tasked to prepare and lead the adoration prayers for the Altar of Repose immediately after the Maundy Thursday Eucharistic Celebration, and through much prayer and with the power of the Holy Spirit the adoration touched many who attended.  Also the presence of the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ our Lord was greatly felt by most who later attended the Lenten Vigil which followed from midnight to 6am Good Friday morning.  I am certain that most, if not all who attended grew very much closer to God in prayer and worship.  The team did a fantastic job, with videos of the passion of Christ, Praise and Worship sessions, meditation on the sorrowful mystery of the Rosary, Meditation on the powerful healing in uniting our sufferings with the Passion of Christ, Mediations on the Lord’s Supper and the stations of the cross.  Again I am very thankful for being able to participate and contribute in two of the meditations that morning.  It is indeed a powerful testament to witness God’s hand and to feel His presence throughout the Vigil, this only happens when we allow ourselves to be led and allow Him to work through us. Praise Be To God! Allelulia, Allelulia, Alleluia!
During Adoration….
I received a vision, a message or more aptly a gentle reminder to share……..
Amid the storms of your life, yes there will be storms. When the waves of anxiety are overwhelming, the dark gloomy clouds of desperation looms over you, the thunder of insecurity and lightning pangs of pain sends clutches of fear to envelope your being. Know that I the Lord your God am with you, walk over the waters of faith and stay focussed on my Son.  Walk towards Him and He will lead you into my embrace.
Praise Be to God!
